Ken has taken us on a journey throughout western Uganda since our second day here which was June 16th. We went to Mbarara to meet a team from Texas who was working with Pastor Joseph Oloo and Berna. They worked hard to have a mass wedding of 38 plus couples and hosted a soccer clinic and piggery project while the Rally Team conducted village and school evangelism throughout the area.
Then from Mbarara to Kabwohe to visit Joy and Jersey’s school of 120 Orphans and vernerable children where we delivered a computer, they were very appreciative. Now we are praying to get water to the school on top of a large mountain so they can have access without sending donkey’s down the mountain daily to retrieve it.
Then onto Kasese to stay at Bishop Daugherty’s mission house for 3 days and minister in the area. ANdy SHirley, Ivonne Pyke and Kim Risenwitz were able to speak on the Grace FM that broad cast into Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda; WOW!
We walked in the villages and shared the gospel (one of our favorite things to do) with the help of Joseph’s rally team from Mbarara and many responded to the gospel, many seeds were planted. We pray to go back with medical/dental teams and a vet as there is so much need. We purchased 20 Bibles for local pastor who ministers to 80 widows and children. We spread the team among four churches that Sunday morning.
Monday back to Jinja 12hours in the car with a quick stop in Kampala, we were glad to arrive in Jinja.
Then Tuesday in Iganga for womens conference with 157 women attending, they needed 80 Bibles and we were able to purchase 38 in English, 1 Bible in another language(I can’t recall) and now looking for Luganda Bibles which are in short supply.
Two more days of rally teams going to Iganga and Kbimbiri and today the team is in Kampala ministering at Emmanuel and Josephine Waiko’s church then two team members will leave for USA and we will prepare for others coming.
With a team of 7 from USA including 5 from Crosspointe Church, 1 from Cullman and 1 from Tampa, Fl, we joined another 5 team members from Botswana to continue to build momentum and establish a church in Mosojane Botswana. Our team was made up of Pastor David Howard, Nate Brown, D’marco Teague, Phil Hunsucker, Rev. Ken Galyean, Evangelist Bo Shedd and Mrs. Paula Drennan.
We joined our Botswana team members; Mtata, Mommaruti, Blessing, X man, and Lillian plus our driver Thomas to use puppets, dramas, music, singers, testimonies, and preaching of the gospel in many venues through out three villages to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
We had the priveladge to dedicate a well, do evangelistic rallies in front of bars, schools, grociery stores, hold revival meetings, sports ministry, leadership training and pass out Bibles, tracts, train new christians, view Jesus film and even a trip to the police station. The Lord was so good and we saw many respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Special thanks to Crosspointe Community Church, Journey Church, Fishhawk Fellowship, The Kings Foundation, and Bo Shedd Ministries for making this Call to Africa partnership with Open Baptist Church of Gabarone a reality. We have left some seed money to begin the church building which will begin in October. Plans for CTA to return to Botswana and continue this work in May 2011. We pray for the continued work of Pastor Norman Schaeffer and the leaders of OBC as they face the aids pandemic in Botswana with the Hope of Jesus Christ!!
Ken and Renate Galyean of CTA join local TV Cooper & Co.’s Jamie and Gloria Cooper to talk about CTA ’s involvement in Africa. Please pray for upcoming opportunities Call to Africa has sceduled and consider inviting Ken and Renate to your church or mission group to hear how you can join in what God is up to around the World…
May 21-31, CTA will make it’s way to Botswana, Africa to continue working on church plant along the border of Zimbabwe. 5 members from Crosspointe Church, 1 evangelist from Cullman, and one other team member from a partner church in Tampa, FL will join a group from Botswana to eveangelize communities and equip leaders during this mission.
Please pray for us to have the resources to distribute Bibles and begin the church plant.
Renate and Ken in the airport between flights. Preparing for another couple months of travel with teams from USA to Botswana and Uganda.
2010 CTA continues to pursue the modern day Macedonian Call where leaders in third world countries are saying come help us. We have been blessed and challenged to renew our love for the Lord and each other.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. So these next few weeks will be used to examine our heart and let the Lord direct our steps.
Please pray for us as we have more ministry assignments than resources available, and as I write these words the Lord reminds me; He is my source, don’t rely on what I can see, but Him alone!
The pastor’s conference is off to a wonderful start. Pastor Wayne and Bishop Daugherty have been such a blessing. On only the first day, we had over 200 in attendance… praise the Lord!
The rally teams have been hitting it hard, making 6 presentations a day in local schools and market places. Brad is doing a wonderful job presenting the Gospel and ministering alongside the rally team. His enthusiasm is contagious!
We’ve been showing The Passion of the Christ in 2 different locations every night and are seeing a huge response… the people of Kisoro are so hungry for hope, and so receptive to the Gospel.
Please continue to pray for our team as the days are long, the sun is draining, and the atmosphere can at times be heavy.
I mentioned in the previous post that Pastor Wayne and Brad were ministering in the local prison here in Kisoro. We just received a phone call telling us that almost the ENTIRE prison responded to the invitation to recieve Jesus. PRAISE THE LORD!! The local churches here will continue to minister to the prison in the days to come. We are overwhelmed once again by the greatness of our God!
Our time in Kabwohe was incredible… thank you for your prayers! We saw the Lord move in a great way during the pastor’s conference.
One of the topics God laid on Ken’s heart was that of forgiveness. A pastor stood up on the last day before the other 85 men in leadership and publicly confessed sin in his life. He had been harboring bitterness towards his daughter for marrying and unbeliever and was ashamed of her. On that day, he brought her before the entire assembly and publicly asked for her forgiveness. There wasn’t a dry eye as the two embraced and we watched God restore their relationship… Praise God!
The team spent several days in Kasese, Uganda resting and preparing for a week of ministry in Kisoro. We arrived last night and already can sense that the Lord has wonderful things ahead. We are priveleged to have Pastors Wayne and Brad Clayton with us from Florida. Already, God is using them in a big way! (They are ministering to the local prison as this is being written…)
The pastor’s conference begins tomorrow, along with the ministry of the rally teams. Also, the local business leaders and government officials have requested that we share our time with them every evening from 5-7. This is an incredible opportunity! Please continue to cover us, the Ugandan team, and the people of Kisoro in your prayers.
We’ve been in Jinja, Uganda for the last ten days doing ministry and preparing for a potential trip into Southern Sudan. We found out Wednesday that our permits would not be able to be obtained for another month. Our prayer over the last few days as a team has been that God will keep us sensitive and alert for other opportunities. Now that Sudan is out of the picture, here is where we feel God is leading us-
Tomorrow we will pack up our things, and make the trek out west to do ministry in Mbarara, Kasese, Kisoro, and Kibuye. The next few weeks we will eat, sleep, dream and breathe ministry! Pastor’s conferences, community outreach, prison ministry, school ministries, etc. We will be showing the Jesus Film in the local languages every night as well. We’ll be meeting with local village leadership to discuss the needs they’re facing and assess how these line up with CTA’s heart/ purpose. We’ll also be seeking the Lord as to what the best areas of ministry will be for our summer trips, and for the Sarah and Joseph Foundation.
Pastor Wayne and his son, Brad from Hopewell Baptist Church in Florida will be joining us later in the month, and we are excited to see what God has for them, as well as for the pastors and communities they will be ministering to.
Renate Galyean the Director of The Sarah & Joseph Foundation of ‘Call to Africa’ , was invited to speak to the women of South Tampa Fellowship Church. After a weekend without her voice because of the prayers of many friends Renate’s voice came through load and clear on Monday night December 7 to share her life story and corelate it to the book of Hosea. Many of the women that attended were touched by God as He revealed through Renate’s life expereince how forgiveness and love from God changed her life and gave her hope and a future.
Special thanks to all the ladies at STF women’s ministry who facilitated this wonderful event. Karen, Elenor, Terry, Gail, Wibke, and so many others who helped, prayed, hosted, and encouraged us to share those deep hurts we bring into our lives because of sin and selfishness, but God still loving brings us back to Himself. Thank you Jesus!
When it comes to ‘Pure and Undefiled Religion’ Renate Galyean is the director of the Sarah and Joseph Foundation of Call to Africa, which focuses primarily on caring for widows and orphans.
Since coming to Uganda in 2004 Renate noticed a need that was being overlooked by their ministry. Widows and orphans, all the effort and resources were dominated by training Pastors and evangelistic campaigns. So Renate took it upon herself to begin to train the women within the church leadership in Uganda how to care for the widows and orphans. Now Renate spends her time in USA traveling to conferences with CTA and speaks to womens groups about the great needs that can be met when you focus the women in this area of great need.
In December Renate has three opportunities to raise awareness and resources for The S&J Foundation; Al, FL, and TX. Please pray for Renate as she seeks the Lord to give grace among those she will be speaking, to get involved. Giving, going, and praying will be Renate’s invitation for other women to get involved to make a difference in the lives of the poor of the world.
Renate has discovered what the Bible says to be true; ‘pure and undefiled religion is this; to care for the widows and orphans in their distress…’
